Oroville, Washington TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
Grammar is so extensive that is good to review sometimes. Even though I teach grammar every day, it was nice to have some review on less common grammatical structures that I don’t teach at a middle school English learner level. For example, I haven’t heard the terms “countable noun” and “uncountable noun” before, so these were relatively new terms, though a rather clear concept to grasp.
As a native English speaker, I find that grammar is obvious and comes naturally—if not in spelling or writing, then at least in speaking. However, I find it extremely different to try to rationalize and explain why certain rules are the way that they are to my students. I try to give them a list of rules, but of course, there are always exceptions to everything when it comes to the English language. For example, indefinite and definite articles make sense to even young native English speakers who are just learning to speak. However, to an English learner, this is a confusing concept. It is even more challenging if there is no equivalent to “a” and “the” in their native language.
