Vocabulary, Grammar and Functions of the language. Starting with how to select vocabulary for different age learners or different level learners is always a bit of a challenge. Making sure each group you teach the Meanings, Use of the words. Where the words belong in Grammar. How the words are used with others words. Spelling the word and Pronunciation of the words. For the Engage part I like to use Discussion, pictures, Acton pictures and Discovery things to where students "ask what is this? There are a Variety work sheet study things that can be used from Fill gap and Matching. Fav activity for Activate is Story telling and material making things or Drawing and Discussions. A Grammar exercise is allot of the same but in discussion time Putting the words in proper context. Example: This is my sofa, This is my dads car, I put my shoes at the door, My mom cooks in the kitchen. To me the ESA straight Arrow plan is fine but a better for Vocabulary and Grammar in my opion for young learners or beginner learners of older age is a ESA Boomerang. For short limited time classes. Because I can give more time to Study and Activate parts of the lesson. Example: ESA Boomerang: Engage: start class with discussion of common actions in daily present life: Playing, Working, Jumping, Running, Sitting with Body gestures of doing each. Maybe even have them tell or guess what I am doing in each action. Activate: after describing the actions have students follow along with teacher doing different actions ( acting them Out). Study: Doing some fill in the gap of small sentences with Pictures of actions Example: Johnny is ________ to school, Henry is _______ basketball. Ann is _______ at her desk, Frank is _______ at birds. Activate:Have students do the actions and describe what their action is and what its for. Examples; I am running to my house Why?, I am sitting at my desk Why?. and so on. This helps with their Vocabulary and Grammar of daily activities. Foot Note: I would also like to add on Unit 6 past tense. Two of the questions I had wrong I simply miss read. I had first marked them correct but for some reason thought I read the question wrong and had changed them before submitting. I did miss 1 where I was wrong and understand why it was wrong.
