In unit 5, I learned about classroom management. Using the appropriate eye contact, hand gestures, and tone of voice can help students stay engaged. There are positives and negatives that must be considered when organizing students into groups, pairs, or individual study. The arrangement of classroom seating will depend on the space available and student demographics. It is important to know all the students’ names to build a rapport and understand the competency level of each student. Students need classroom time to practice speaking in English, but they also need classroom time to listen to proper English from the teacher. Instructions to the students should be clear, using simple language. Maintaining consistent professionalism can help avoid behavior problems from students. It is the teacher’s job to help increase the students’ confidence and encourage them to learn.
