During the lesson students should be mtivated, be exposed to the language and have an opprtunity to use it. The most effective technique that combines all this aspects is ESA (engage, study, activate). There may be a lot of mini-sequences consisting of ESA (Patchwork, boomerang, straight arrow) but any lesson must start from the engage stage and finish by the activate stage.
During the engage stage all students should speak English with each other as much as possible, a teacher musn't correct any mistakes.
The study stage imlyies that students be learning new language concepts, a teacher should ellicit as mush as possible, do all examples on the board, correct students' mistakes, drilling should be 3X3, if the exersise is hed out to students a teacher should not interrupt them.
Activate stage means that a teacher must encourage students to experement with English, monitor students without interruption, give a feedback and correct if it is neccessary.
