In this unit, I learned the importance of evaluating students level of progress. There are three ways on how to asssess the language level of students; tutorials, evaluation by the students and tests. In tutorials, you can do one-on-one or by group. The teacher can assess the students for the last ten minutes of the class, asking question of what they have learned and if they have some difficulties in the lesson which can be properly discuss with the teacher. Evaluation by the students shows that it is best to have a guided questionnaire or survey which can be discuss with the students afterwards and to check which part do they find difficulty. Lastly, is through tests in which it is commonly used for all educational institutions. There are different kinds of tests used which has different goals. For example, Placement tests are designed for the new students so that teachers will be able to place students in a class according to their level. Another is a progress tests, that checks which language has retained or forgotten by the students. It can also help the teacher which lessons to focus or to be reviewed again in class. There is also a practice tests which goal is to help the students in their external exams. Such external exams are TOEFL,IELTS,TOIEC,and etc. This test shows a format and structure of these external exams.
