In unit 12, I learned about teaching productive skills; speaking and writing. Many students are hesitant to speak in class for various reasons, the teacher should try to create an environment where students are not afraid of speaking. It’s better to allow students to speak freely without interruptions, the teacher must find an appropriate time to correct errors. When providing feedbacks, it’s better to concentrate on potential improvements rather than the mistakes.
Writing tends to be neglected in the classroom. Since writing is usually a silent individual activity, teachers tend to just assign it as homework. Writing can be a creative and fun group classroom activity however. Teachers can do more to make writing fun and interesting for students.
Accuracy activities are focused on constructing the correct language. Fluency activities are focused on promoting the expression of the language. They are equally valuable to the learning process.
