Unit number 10 has been the most practical and informative one so far. I was provided with two videos of actual English classes with a group of Thai students. In the first lesson the teacher was arrogant, negative, not prepared for the lesson and the language he used was too difficult. He did not explain the concepts to the students, kept repeating that the subject matter was “very easy”, and most importantly, he did not use the ESA structure for his lesson. There was a lot of teacher talking time and almost none student talking time. The second video, on the other hand, used the ESA concept for teaching the students new vocabulary concerning animals, as well as modal auxiliary verbs “can” and “can’t/cannot”. It also emphasized the fact that the teacher’s attitude is extremely important! A very useful unit full of great ideas and practical information!
