The unit covers the importance of course books and lesson materials. It also helped me understand the difference between authentic and created materials, each having their own advantage and disadvantage. Authentic materials are everything a native English speaker would hear or read, such as newspapers, songs, videos, and others. While created materials are designed by the teacher to help students in accordance with their needs and level of English. The unit also provided several examples of created materials. Furthermore the unit helped me understand the advantages and disadvantages of course books, and what type of materials can usually be found in a course book. The unit emphasized on the importance of supplementing course book materials with lessons and activities that teachers themselves create to tailor to the needs of their specific classroom / students. The unit also taught me how to best utilize a course book and what factors I should consider if I have the luxury of choosing a course book.
