If you have not taught before it helps to plan your lessons before the class starts at least in this way you will know what you want to achieve from the class. However you also need to bare in mind that your lessons should always be flexible and allow for change. I feel that one should at least make notes on where a particular lessons has ended so that in the future you can always refer back to it and it will help should you not make it to school one day and someone else needs to fill in for you. In this way the substituting teacher does not stray from your form of teaching which students might already be used to.
