In Unit 1 I have learnt about what makes a great teacher and student. I have understood that the teacher plays a lot of roles in every class and most of all needs to be sensitive, patient and encouraging. Students who have teachers with these qualities will be more likely to be good learners and will feel safe and have the confidence to experiment, practice and participate in classes. They will also become more motivated to continue learning. Therefore, the success of the student largely depends on the quality of the teacher. We also covered the kinds of students, how age and experiences come into play, their English level and what their motivations might be. I learnt to consider each student individually and be aware that every class is composed of different people and to be mindful and sensitive to each of their needs (as equally and fairly as possible).
