This unit brings up the problem of how to choose and adapt content to the students.
Vocabulary is the most important for young students, as it'll become the foundation to their whole learning experience, it is important to provide content that is both adapted to the level of the students, and useful for everyday life.
Grammar is the hardest part of learning a new language, if vocabulary are bricks, grammar is the cement that holds them together, you need both, and if one of them is not good enough, the whole thing will crumble.
Language functions is an added layer of complexity to the language, and while it is not as important in early stages, the perfect understanding of a language in any situation will require a good knowledge of those functions on top of a very good level of both vocabulary and grammar.
Finding balance in the content so the students can feel themselves improving while keeping a steady pace in the flow of new words/structures is key to keep students involved and interested in the class.
