I learned how even the simple action of speaking a sentence can imply some sort of tone that beckons or deters an answer from the listener. As a native English speaker, this is all knowledge I internally know but cannot explain why, this chapter puts into words what I learned from being a native speaker, and did so in a clear and concise way. The diagrams showing the rising and falling pattern of volume and pitch were really helpful in that regard.
