Teaching pronunciation and phonology can be a complex process. If teachers take into consideration the experience of the students, that will give us a good basis on where to start. If students struggle with a particular aspect such as intonation, we as teachers can focus more on rising and falling patterns of speech. Or if they cannot quite pronounce particular words, we can focus on tongue twisters and speech linking. How and what we teach phonetically are dependent upon the students needs.
