This unit placed its emphasis on how to teach the receptive language skills, reading and listening. I found this unit helpful, as I myself have experienced learning a second language and I know that listening was always a struggle for me in the beginning. I think one of the most important things before a listening exercise is to pre-teach problem vocabulary. When the students have something specific to listen for, it will make the exercise less overwhelming and the students will learn more. Also the idea that teachers should try to find topics that the students are interested in is very important. When a student enjoys the subject matter, they are more likely to participate and increase their English language knowledge.
