This unit clearly explains how the motivations for learning are important factors that teachers should be aware of. Sparking student interest and using topics or stories that students can make a connection with will improve there motivation to learn the materi. We learn new things for pleasure and for a purpose. This is the main point of this unit. Using the esa method of teaching, we can design lessons that engage student interest, and require them to read and improve there listening and comprehension skills. Reading is usually easier than listening since a student can re-read something until it’s inderstood but often times listening can be much more difficult. One way to improve listening by comprehension is to use media that is authentic and not designed merely for learning English and to pre-teach certain vocabulary before hand. It’s not necessary to teach all the words that may not be known to the students because the idea is that students understand the main idea once they know the key words that were just reviewed. This type of activity will boost student confidence as well.
