The Voice - Imperative to have a good range of clarity, range, variety or projection. The greater variation of the voice, the greater effectiveness.
Important to use students names
Grouping students- Whole-class, students working on their own, Pairwork and group work - All have pros and cons, but the teacher should use their discretion as to which setting will compliment the learning module and available space.
Writing on the board - most important is to avoid turning your back to students. Various ways to reduce - use OHP, Prepare cards with vocabulary, write on board while students are engaged in another activity.
Teacher talk time and student talk time - the balance depends on type of lesson and activities
Giving interactions - Use simple language at or below level of students being taught, Being consistent, Using visual cues, Checking instructions
Establishing rapport - Students more likely to contribute when there is a good rapport between teacher and students. Various ways to build rapport - Students should know each other, ice breaking activities, get students to help each other, let students correct each other, give clear instructions, enjoy your job, have the right manner, be positive in everything you do.
Maintaining discipline - Important to maintain a balance between exercising contrail and encouraging a relaxed atmosphere. Important to know reasons for behavior problems and preventing. Also important on how we respond to behavior problems - Focus on behavior not student, don't lose temper, keep calm and know school.
