In this unit we studied intonation and stress. We also learned the phonemic alphabet and studied articulation in order to learn how to best help students with their English pronunciation. Much of the information in this unit was new to me and very helpful. I particularly appreciated learning about the difference in meaning between the rise/fall vs. fall/rise intonation patterns in English speech. It was also the first time I'd seen 'rules' about which syllables in a word are usually stressed. This information will help me teach these concepts in a much clearer fashion. I also learned a huge amount about articulation, both the anatomy of it and the various kinds of sounds and where they are formed. Very helpful! The poem by George Bernard Shaw was fun and I will probably use the poem in class. Thank you!
