As a native English speaker, it has been a long time since I have given such thought to the intricacies of verb tense usage and how it affects sentence structure and word choice. I really needed to pause, think and take some notes around the differences between all of these present tense forms; present simple, present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous. The tasks that are most challenging, but also most helpful are thinking through the common mistakes students who are learning English may make, why they may have made the error, and how best to correct it. as well as thinking through ideas on how to teach each of these present tense verb structures in a way that is fun, engaging, and provides lots of opportunities for the students to practice using the different present tense sentence structures and verbs.
