Unit 6 focused on the following different past tenses: past simple, past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous. The past simple consists of regular verbs with "ed" or "d" attached to the end to indicate a completed action at a definite time in the past. For irregular verbs, such as "to be," "was" is to be used for the subjects "I, he, she, and it," and "were" is to be used for "you, we, and they." The past continuous is formed with the past tense of the auxiliary verb "be" (was/were) and the present participle (verb plus "ing"). The past continuous is used for interrupted past actions, actions that occurred before a specific time and continued after, and descriptions. The past perfect is formed with a subject, "had" and a past participle. The past perfect is used to indicate that a past action had completely finished before another action in the past started. Lastly, the past perfect continuous is formed with a subject, "had been" and a verb plus "ing." This tense is used to describe longer actions in the past that had been going on continuously up to the moment that we are thinking about it.
