This Unit has has given me a good opportunity to understand the theories, methods and techniques regarding ELT/TEFL/TESOL. In particular, the main various methodologies around EFL teaching and the importance of remaining conscious of the positive and negative sides of these methods. The recommended lesson planning model of ESA is very relevant, especially the three ways in which the EFL teaching could be executed - that of Straight Arrow template, the Boomerang format and the Patchwork sequencing. I have learnt about the importance of techniques such as "elicitation" through a variety of possibilities (such as realia, flashcard/pictures, drawings, gap-fills, miming etc); the points of using a mix of them as appropriate, the importance of remaining conscious how culture and local language come into play. In addition, the list on the various activities to engage with the Engage Phase of the ESA model is very helpful and will go that extra mile for me when teaching English to my students.
