This unit talks about the present tense. There are 4 parts to the present tense, the simple present, present continuous, the present perfect, and the present perfect continuous. The unit states that some people argue that there are only three tenses, past, present, and future, but most of the textbooks teach twelve separate tenses - splitting up each of the main three into four sub-tenses. This can be very confusing for students, especially those who come from a language with just one tense. The mistakes that can be generated from having so many tenses can often be predicted, and the unit gave several examples of common mistakes to expect from students unused to the proper usage of each tense.
