This unit was all about pronunciation and the teaching of pronunciation to students of the English language. The concepts of intonation, stress, and pronunciation were all covered most thoroughly. English as a language is notorious for spellings which differ in pronunciation depending on the context, as is evidenced by the poem contained in the unit (although one could argue that French, with it's numerous extra, unpronounced letters is more difficult, but I digress). The unit includes the phonetic alphabet as well as many tips and techniques for teaching correct pronunciation to students - even though the phonetic alphabet is far too confusing for students directly, understanding the mechanics of the pronunciation of a word can prove most useful for teachers.
