There are a lot of theories, methodologies and techniques teachers use to help students learn a language and these strategies continue to evolve as student’s generations change. What teachers need to bear in mind and remember is that at the end of each lesson or activity, whatever theories, methodologies or techniques were used, the end goal is for students to use the language correctly and comfortably in any given context or situation. As a teacher, one should also take into consideration assessing the learning environment and factors that may promote or hinder language learning. Learning ability, culture, and local/native language are some of the aspects teachers need to be aware of when choosing an appropriate strategy in language teaching. Using the Engage-Study-Activate (ESA) theory is actually a “motivate-teach-apply” method that would greatly increase a student’s level of learning a language because they get to use it in context. We have to be flexible so that appropriate strategies are used to fully maximize student’s learning therefore planning is the real key pairing it with a variety of activities. Lessening teacher talk and actually allowing students to speak and use the language will help them absorb the language naturally. Every now and then, we can facilitate and help correct their errors. Positive or constructive criticisms also lessen the fear of the students so this would be a great opportunity for feedbacking. In the end, teachers must ensure that students enjoy the process of learning a language because it sparks their motivation that will result to a better understanding of the language in context.
