Receptive skills and productive skills are equally as important. The two receptive skills in language learning are reading and listening. There are two main purposes for reading and listening, which are for a purpose or entertainment. Students should be given chances to practice their receptive skills to enable them to do both. When teaching listening and reading, teachers should be careful in text selection by catering to student interests through authentic texts. It is also important to pre-teach difficult vocabulary so that they can understand and not be intimidated when reading or listening to a text in detail.
