Unit Nine covers lesson planning and integrating components from past units, such as using the ESA model, and activities that correspond with engage, study and activate. There was a general reflection on the use and focus on lesson planning, which in a nutshell suggested that having a general structure for the lesson including objectives, language point, procedure and timing were important, but that a lesson plan is not meant to be written in stone. Student engagement and learning will be enhanced if the instructor is flexible and allows for emergent curriculum as student generated ideas and interests will lead to better outcomes. Lesson plans help keep novice teachers on track, and act as a guide and record for more experienced teachers.
