The text describes several language learning systems. the grammar-translation system focuses on finding equivalents in the learned language and the native language. Audio-lingualism stresses forming habits of speech through repetition drills. In PPP, the teacher presents a context and situation, then students practice the language, then students produce the language in a creative way. Task-based learning is centered on completing a task. Communicative language teaching focuses on the function of language rather than vocabulary and grammar. In the silent way, the teacher says as little as possible, encouraging the students to discover the language. Suggestopaedia emphasizes the student's need to be comfortable, confident, and relaxed in order to learn. The lexical approach focuses on the acquisition of words and phrases rather than grammar.
This course is based on the ESA method--engage, study, and activate. Elicitation is strategies used to elicit a response from students, such as showing a flashcard or asking a question. All EFL lessons should incorporate the three components, engage, study and activate. In the Engage part of the lesson, the teacher tries to arouse the students interest and get them involved. Engage activities can be games or prompts to elicit responses. Study refers to the portion of a lesson when students learn new material through presentation and activities. During the activate stage, students use all of the language that they know, with an emphasis on accuracy and fluency. Activate activities may include role-playing or creating stories.
Teachers need to give feedback so students can assess their progress and success. Corrections can be made by the student himself, by other students, or, as a last resort, by the teacher.
