Georgetown, Texas TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
Teachers have several options when it comes to course materials they can use with their class. Authentic materials expose students to English with real world media, which builds both confidence in their ability and a more positive attitude while learning. Authentic materials also give the teacher an opportunity to tailor the lesson towards the interests of the class, keeping them interested and engaged. However, one must be careful with what materials they choose as they are not originally intended for use in the classroom, and can vary wildly in terms of level and the ability required to understand.
Created materials are designed for use in the classroom. Teachers have the option of mass produced lessons and worksheets, or materials they create themselves. When creating their own materials, teachers can tailor what they make to suit the needs/interests of the class.
Course books are a compilation of lessons and materials, usually with books for both the teacher and class. They can also include other pieces such as leveled reading books, video pieces, audio cassettes, and other auxiliary media. Course books make crafting lessons plans much easier for teachers, and are typically expected by students as they are encountered in almost every class subject. Sometimes they do not fit the needs of students. A good teacher should teach with a mix of all the different material types to ensure they are addressing the strengths and weaknesses of their class, and any region specific difficulties.
