The concepts from this unit have been by far the most difficult. I learned many things I didn’t know before inlcuding what phonology is. It is the study, science, analysis, and classification of the physical properties of sounds. Intonation is the variation of volume and pitch of the entire sentence. Stress relates more to individual words. The pattern of rise/fall and fall/rise in terms of intonation is difficult to hear because speaking is second nature and no thought is given to intonation as a native speaker. Also I found the section of what your mouth is doing physically as you make different sounds to be very interesting. I can see how that would be very helpful in teaching sounds that maybe a foreign speaker does not use in their native language.
