This units starts off introducing how the English language can be difficult for learners because there are so many different tenses that is used regularly and how they go beyond the typical sets of tenses used by other languages. While this can be difficult to learn, the tenses themselves are not difficult and are essential to the English language and to using the language properly.
The present tenses are covered in detail in this unit, including: present simple, present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous. While each of these tenses are used when speaking about the present, they each have their own unique uses. While it seems intuitive for native English speakers, these present tense forms can pose issues for English language learners. In order to effectively teach these tenses to learners, the teacher must also thoroughly understand the different tenses. While for the most part each of these forms have their basic forms, there are many instances where the English language does not follow the rules and so this must be relayed to the learners as well.
The English language can be difficult, but through practice it can be mastered.
