This unit focusses on how to teach receptive skills - reading & listening. When it comes to student comprehension, reading is less problomatic as the content is 'captured' on paper allowing students to review it as many times as necessary. However this doesn't necessarliy mean that reading will be any easier to teach than listening in the classroom. A listening activity can make use of lots of different types or media; sound bites, music, commentary, radio, TV, movies, YouTube etc. Of course the content needs to suit the students, but such materials automatically create a certain level or interest/engagement. Reading focusses on text based materials which can sometimes be dull. Therefore, I feel that some of the key points outlined in this unit; choice of topic, actively creating student interest and varying materials need to be even more carefully considering when preparing reading activities for a lesson.
