This unit discusses various types of special groups an ESL teacher might teach. Teaching children will be different than teaching Business English. Business English is often taught through a company so that there are certain requirements and subjects that need to be addressed. This is not to say that the students' needs and desires should not be addressed as well. Just as teaching children should be fun, clear and motivating, teaching adult Business English should also be that. Personally, my experience is with adults whose English level has ranged from basic literacy to advanced beginner. The classes have almost always been multilevel and multilingual. I have found the advantages in teaching multilingual classes discussed in this unit to be true. It really does encourage speaking English and often increases student motivation and confidence when they can help explain something to another student who speaks a different language.
