I absolutely believe agree with the example of this unit that grammar is like the tree and branches of the language while vocabulary and functions are like the leaves and flowers.Therefore,we have to ensure that students are introduced to new language in a balanced way.
As far as the vocabulary is concerned,we should admit that students can uderstand many more words than they can use.We should be careful with the selection of the words need to be taught and what exactly students have to know about the vocabulary item.The techniques for vocabulary teaching and the typical straight arrow structured ESA vocabulary lesson will definitely help us to follow the engage-study-activate phases effectively.
