Unit 3 gave me an introduction to language teaching methods. I believe the most effective methods are the followings: PPP – Presentation, Practice and Production, because it is very effective in teaching at lower levels, the teacher has a lot of control. CLT – The Communicative Language Teaching method allows students to use the language in real life situations. Suggestopaedia keeps anxiety and stress low, therefore students can learn the language in a very relaxed way.
I have learned about ESA – Engage-Study-Activate methodology, that can integrate all the above teaching methods and helps new teachers to structure their lessons. This unit gave me good examples on activities for each ESA lesson component, on how to engage students in the lesson, on how to elicit in the Study stage and also on what activities will help to activate language knowledge.
The unit gave me guidelines when and how to correct students and about giving feedback in an encouraging way.
