In Unit 10, after seeing two lesson demonstrations I understood how teachers can make their lessons effective. In the first lesson the teacher was not well prepared and was not respectful to the students. He was not organized, took too much time to look for his papers. These resulted in confusion and lack of interest. In the second class the teacher was polite and smiley, gave clear explanations and instructions. He made a straight arrow ESA lesson, he included all three parts and he had a clear language point, to teach auxiliary verbs can/can’t and have in order to express what is required, necessary or possible to do at different places in our close environment. He had the necessary aids ready and used them effectively. Before the exercises he gave clear instructions to students about what he expected. He also kept track of time and kept students relaxed by noting that it’s not a problem if they don’t finish with all the answers. The second class demonstrated how a good teacher behaves, manages the class and follows a well structured lesson plan.
