This unit introduces the benefits and drawbacks of various types of course materials. Textbooks are often a necessary part of teaching English, but shouldn't be the a teacher's only source of inspiration. It's important that students be introduced to authentic materials (suitable for their language-level) in order to both gain confidence and understand "real world" English. If possible, teachers should create their own materials when possible, as creative materials are often more relevant to students, more interesting, and suitable for specific aims. This lessons has granted me a deeper understanding of how best to both choose and utilize course material.
