This lesson was very important in me realizing that there are many known theories of teaching ESL lessons. I got answers to my previous concerns about focusing on grammar to the point of not learning the language. I also think it was important to see and analyze the Elicitation approach of asking questions to elicit answers and the ESA lessons which showed quite a bit of flexibility in combining various aspects of other theories in order to effectively teach ESL students. The ideas presented relating to corrections and when and how to best apply corrections being sensitive to the students' feelings and needs are enlightening. I also liked the ideas of the importance of feedback and the emphasis on being positive at all times so as not to discourage the student(s). Finally, the suggestion of various examples of methods and materials used in presenting each aspect of the ESA lesson--Engage, Study and Activate, are helpful for future practice.
