Unit 16 talks about conditionals and reported speech.
Conditionals are sentences discussing possibilities (in the ‘if’ clause) and their consequences (in the main clause). All five conditionals’ form and usage are explained and illustrated with examples. Typical mistakes and errors are shown, too. Then there are teaching ideas for different class levels.
The second part of the unit deals with the usage and form of reported speech. There are many different changes that need to be made when it is reported what has been said before. These changes include the backshifting of the verb tenses, pronouns, time expressions, and patterns.
I have realized that teaching these topics has to be done slowly and step by step, so that students don’t get confused too much and understand the important points.
