Unit 11 basically return to teaching theory of respective skills-reading and listening and by reading this unit i was able to have a close look at reading and listening skills and relevant knowledge around these skills.
The Unit first started with mentioning the reasons for reading and listening are for a purpose or for entertainment.
Then it illustrated how reading and listening should be carried out, such as using predictive skills, scanning,skimming, getting detailed information,deduction from context.
Later, it explained the problems with listening and reading that can be faced.
And then I was also able to gain the knowledge on the importance of pre-teaching vocabulary,careful selection of texts, choose of topics,create the interest of students and how to provide comprehension tasks.
Lastly,an outline of a typical receptive skills lesson was given and i was able to access to the knowledge on how to conduct successful receptive skill lessons.
So after reading this Unit, basically I have learnt the different specialist skills needed for reading and listening successfully, the importance of choosing topic, how can I generate interest in the topic,the factors that i need to consider when selecting text or dialogue.
