When it comes to designing a language learning lesson plan, there are endless possibilities. Three main formats of a lesson plan include a straight arrow “Engage, Study, Activate” method, the boomerang “Engage, Activate, Study, Activate” lesson, and a Patchwork lesson which uses as many combinations of ESA (always starting with engaging the students and ending with them activating their knowledge). Feedback is just as important as presenting the content of a lesson- and teachers should be able to correct effectively and be able to distinguish between a mistake and an error. Lessons should also be designed based on the culture of the class itself and through a variety of activities, whether it’s group work or individual study time.
