Receptive skills are made up of reading and listening. It is important to teach in a manner that focuses on the students ability to be receptive and gather information as well as to speak and write well. Lesson plans that focus on these receptive skills should have a variety of texts and audible material that both cater to the student’s abilities and also provide more challenging vocabulary that will build confidence with the language. The lessons should also engage students with topics that they are invested in, in order to create a learning environment where students are interested in participating.
