This Unit is about Parts of Speech. A sentence must contain at least a subject and a verb. There are eight parts: Nouns, Adjectives, Articles, Verbs, Adverbs, Gerunds, Prouns, Prepositions/ Conjunctions.
?Nouns: the usage of Nouns. Five main types: Common, Proper, Compound, Abstract, Collective. There are some rules if words are changed into plural forms. Besides, some words are countable?such as book, table?whereas some words are uncountable, such as water, music. Or some words can be countable and uncountable, like chicken.
?Adjectives: to describe nouns. There is a particular order when some adjectives describe the same noun. Adjective comparisons: comparatives and superlatives.
?Articles: definite (the) and indefinite (a and an).
?Verbs: Transitive verbs can be followed directly by an object. Intransitive verbs can't be followed directly by an object. Infinitives and different verb forms.
?Adverbs: to modify verbs, adjectives and adverbs.
?Gerunds: to be the -ing form of a verb used as a noun.
?Prons: to be used in place of nouns or noun phrases. Four types: Personal, Possessive, Reflexive, and Relative.
?Prepositions/ Conjunctions: Prepositions show the relationship between a noun or a pronoun and some other words in the sentence. Conjunctions join words of the same class or join clauses of sentences.
I learned about parts of speech systematically and it's very useful for me to teach students and to give them professional explanation.
