Unit one gives a basic introduction on the relationship between teachers and students. This unit explains the characteristics of good teachers and learners, while explaining the importance of the relationship between the two. For example, good qualities in a teacher include patience, energy, and knowledge of the subject, but also include the ability to motivate students to learn, involve all students equally and give constructive criticism. On the other side, learners should be good listeners and motivated to learn, but also need to ask questions and receive criticism. Overall, the relationship between student and teacher is just as important as the character or capabilities of each. Additionally, the unit summarized the stages of learners from beginning to advanced, as well as, highlighted the advantages and disadvantages of adult learners and young learners.
