In Unit 12, focus was placed on how to teach productive skills. Productive skills are speaking and writing. Accuracy and fluency activities were introduced. Three different types of speaking activities were provided with examples. These were controlled, guided and creative speaking activities. Various possible hurdles students might face when it comes to speaking during the class were identified. Techniques to encourage speaking were mentioned. Moving on to writing skills, handwriting, spelling, layout, and punctuation were explained in details since they are essential when it comes to written products. Creative writing was suggested as a possible way to motivate students to write. Sample ESA lessons to teach speaking and writing were provided in order to help us plan our own lessons.
