In this unit, "present tenses" we learned about the four different tenses within the broader category of the present tense. The first was the present simple and it is used to describe routines, facts, commentaries, directions, headlines, historical sequences, and present stories. The present continuous form is essentially the same as the present simple tense with a verb that ends in "ing". The present perfect tense is used to relate the past actions to the present that have been completed. The present perfect continuous also relates the past to the present but it implies that the action is still continuing. This is of coarse an over simplification of the subject matter in unit 4. It is easy to see how the tenses will prove to be difficult for an english learner to pick up.
