Unit 3 has taught me about the various methodologies available for teaching English and also how to correctly structure lessons. There are many lessons plans or methods one can use, however the ESA (Engage-study-activate methodology)is the best, as it can be adjusted to incorporate all essential elements in English as a foreign language lessons. It should be applied accordingly to the structuring of all lessons of English, as it is a tried and proven formula. As ESA should always consist of Engage, study and activate phases. Depending on the level of understanding of English of the class (Beginners-advanced), their language level will determine which exercises and activities will be best suited for learning (for example: I spy games for L1-L2 levels during the engage phase. While with higher levels this will not be ideal). Lastly when giving feedback its is vital to not be too critical or too lenient. One should focus on the positive and avoid putting students on the spot or making them feel uncomfortable(This is especially true when teaching younger students).
