In this unit teachers are learning about the qualities that make them a good teacher, nine roles a teacher has, the qualities that good learners have, difference between young and adult learners, different language levels of the students and their possible motivations to learn. Some qualities that good teachers will have is that their kind and patient in order to not spoon feed or force the student to answer the questions. Some students are naturally quick and some are slow it depends and a good teacher is able to adjust the levels according to the student. We also learned about the nine roles a teacher has of which I think the most important is the organizer role because the way a teacher organizes the lesson she can make the class enjoyable or boring. Time management also comes into play here too because based on the student's learning pattern, it is important that he or she organizes the lesson in such a way that the student is encouraged to complete each task without it being neither too difficult nor too easy. A teacher being the monitor or observer is also important because then they are able to give constructive feed back to the students so they can improve. Next we learned about the qualities good learners have in which it is really important that the student has a willingness to learn and listen to the language or else it becomes really difficult. Sometimes you get those students that just really don't want to learn or are too distracted that no matter what method you use they just don't want to respond, rather ignore. This might especially happen with teens who lack motivation sometimes and in that case we have to figure out a way to set a goal in our teaching for that particular lesson and find a focus on something that encourages the student to speak the language whether its about a topic they like or a hobby they do. Furthermore, we learned about the difference between adult and younger learners. Mostly adult bring their own life experiences to the table if their a bit more advance or intermediate and some beginners will rely more on teacher's example or observation. On the other hand, we have the young learners who are more open minded and seem more excited to energetic to learn new words or reading new books. Often some advanced adult learners may ask more technical questions whereas young learners listen and follow examples more often. Lastly, we went through the different reasons student can be motivated some could be excited to travel to US or looking to advance in their careers. During the summer time I often get a lot of students whose motivations are travel and they are excited to learn the new languages in order to speak in a new English Speaking Country.
