Lesson plans should contain enough information to help guide the teacher and so the teacher can use them as a reference point for later in the year to reflect back on where the class was, but should also allow for flexibility within the lesson, if students like one activity or one part of the lesson needs more drilling and repetition. Teachers should include goals for themselves as well as for their students and anticipate problems while lesson planning so that solutions can be thought of beforehand. More experienced teachers can have more free form lesson plans, but beginning teachers may want more structure to their plans so they can learn what works and maintain control of the class.
