This unit covered the use of course books and other content, whether acuired or created, in the class room and mainly focused on giving the reader ideas to use later in class. It also focused on the pros and cons of a coursebook (structure vs specific targeting of weaknesses of student groups) and how to make best use of a coursebook.
I have never been in the position to use a course book, having been in a situation where all course material was heavily used already, and thus required to create original content. The ability to structure a lesson around a course book would be beneficial as someone who knows a whole lot more about actually structuring long term courses has built a foundation, around which I would be able to build useful and relevant activities to provide practice and vocabulary.
The section on the importance of authentic materials is something I agree with heavily. In my studies I have found that targeted content for learners does not often link to real world capacity. Rather being able to apply real world skills to what we actually want to use a language for (reading, watching, listening to or generally interacting with L2 content) provides motivation to continue studies much more so than plodding through a textbook.
