Teachers have many jobs in the classroom, and depending on the day, age group, and lesson topic/plan, will have to take on these roles in varying degrees. Sometimes the teacher will simply monitor the students progress and act as a resource when they reach a roadblock. Other times the teacher will be leading the activity or explaining a new concept. Still other times, the teacher will access the students' grasp of the language and provide relevant feedback in a way that is helpful to the student.
The best classrooms involve students who are good learners. Good learners are enthusiastic, ready to ask questions and willing to accept criticism. Teachers may interact with students of all sorts of ages and levels ranging from toddlers to adults and from almost no knowledge of english to fluency. It is important for the teacher to know how to address and help different kinds of students and help them with problems that may come because of nervousness, lack of formal classroom experience or cultural differences. Students may or may not be motivated to learn english and it is important that we try to engage them as much as possible and attempt to motivate them in different ways. Some areas of motivation could include travel and job opportunities.
