In this unit, I learned about how receptive skills are taught. The two receptive skills are listening and reading. In both of these skills, a number of techniques are used to engage with the material so that it might be more easily understood. These include skimming, scanning for important information, and predicting what the text will be about. When teaching receptive skills, the selection of the topic, reading material (non-native or native), and contextualizing of it with necessary vocabulary words for the students to know are important for the students to be able to make sense of the material.
